What Is Hacking?

By Elise Marshall

The term hacker always brings out negative connotations. The dark art of hacking has turned into something bigger than causing distress to site owners and celebrities. Today, hacking into systems has changed into a laborious security breach spy game that leads only to data theft. Industrial countries therefore invest time and resources into building secure Web systems that are impenetrable and completely secure from threats.

A hacker, in essence, is somebody who owns extensive knowledge of identifying the vulnerabilities of computer systems. The term's complexity has resulted to a number of arguments in the online community. Some programmers yearn to use the word in a distinctly different way, not limited to the malicious criminals who breach security for money or fun.

Why they do so? That is determined by the hacker. The purpose therefore, according to authorities, must distinguish hacking that is done for system enhancement and hacking that is done for malice and information theft. Programmers have proposed utilising the term hacker for white hats or ethical hackers and using the term cracker for online criminals.

Today, the dark art of hacking has certainly been ushered a notch higher. In 2011, a group called Anonymous has tracked down major web sites of US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Spain Police Bureau, Government Of India, US Department of Justice, and Malaysian Government, Belgian Anti-Piracy Federation and Universal Music France. Seems dangerous isn't it? Surely, any entity that has been subjected to the attacks of crackers has been hit with major frustration and apprehension.

As an online entrepreneur, what should do? Surely, you should keep your website's security to a maximum. To do so, you need good programmers to collaborate with you. Seek the help of expert web programmers who know a thing or two about ethical hacking and are competent to build a visually appealing yet impressively secure site that yields to your promotional needs online. Your site's vulnerability to the assaults of hackers not only introduces security threats, but also financial risks to your online enterprise. Enhance your site's security today!
