Software Development Offshore

By Chloe Bibi

Software development is one element that is crucial to society, but the on-going demand for new and more sophisticated technology around every turn means that it can be an increasingly expensive industry to maintain, especially with the high demands of western working conditions. Although many companies are proud to keep their products locally made, there comes a time when many businesses must decide to cut costs and often this results in elements of the business being outsourced.

There are both pros and cons to outsourcing any part of a business, but in general when you are dealing with a financial environment the pros tend to take the lead. Both the costs and the time that can be saved by business are two of the biggest benefits presented by offshore software development. Improved productivity at a lower cost is often found in other countries who have lower minimum wages and increased working hours in a day.

As two of the world's leading areas for this type of development, India and the Philippines can benefit a great deal from this type of outsourcing. The local communities receive a large boost and the economy is helped by the creation of many thousands of jobs. This can be great news for local families who may be struggling to support their loved ones on existing wages and conditions.

One of the main issues involved with offshore software development is that of quality control and unfortunately this is something that needs to be monitored incredibly closely. In the production industry within the UK there are incredibly tight manufacturing standards and these must be upheld at all times, but unfortunately this is not the case in many other countries and as such potential problems with products can occur.

If your business is looking to cut costs down then offshore software development can be a great idea but it is something that will require a great deal of regulation and this needs to be clear before you decide to go down this path with your business.
