Buying Old Apple's Macs

By Mike Gee

Macs are great devices to have in today's advanced world. Not only do they have a renowned brand behind them, but they are also considered much better in performance than the average PC. Right now, most of you will be thinking that Mac is out of budget. But this is so not the case. You can easily find an extremely good Mac at a considerably lower price.

Consider buying a used Apple Macbook Pro, Macbook Mini or any other variant. It will give you the same features as a new Mac device at a reduced price. Used Macs are available in very good condition and are tested before being released to the stores. If they pass the quality standards, then technically they are as good as a new Mac so you really do not have to question the quality. In fact, you can find some very good models for amazing prices at However, before buying old Apple's Mac products, do consider the following points.

Battery: However good the battery life may be, it always decreases with time. A used iPhone will always have a shorter life than compared to a brand new one. The downside is that the battery cannot be replaced. If your chosen iPhone has not been used much, the battery life should suffice but if it is over a year old, then think again.

When you inspect the laptop, have Christoph Sinai's free coconutBattery on a portable drive. Connect the drive to the laptop, and check the cycle count or the life remaining in the battery. Basically, you would be viewing the total number of times that the battery has been charged and discharged. If this number is over 300, then the battery's power has been reduced to 80%. Even if this number is more than 250, then you should ask for a discount so that you can replace the battery with a new one.

Capacity: Used models are available at much lower prices but the capacity is also decreased considerably. Older phones had 4 GB of storage whereas new phones have as much as 64 GB. The iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 offer up to 32 GB but this may not be enough for some of you.

Trading your Old iPad: Alternately, if you have an iPad that is of no use to you, you can always benefit monetarily by selling it. However, since the iPad is a technological product, a rapidly innovating field, you will only lose your device's value by keeping it unused at home for too long. If you want to sell it, do it now!

If there is a problem with the software which is very common with used products, then those DVDs will be really handy. Many a times a reinstallation is just what is needed to make the performance optimal.
