Although portable drives are small in size, they are able to hold a lot of data. Most external hard drives have enough space to backup your entire computer. You can buy drives in sizes between 500 gigabytes and 2 terabytes. To understand how much 2 tb's of data is, that is enough space to hold 500 dvd quality videos, about 225,000 music files or over 155,000 pics!

It is hard to decide on what the best portable hard drives are. These little drives can be used for all kinds of things. They are often used as backup devices. A lot of them include software that automates the backup process. They are also a great companion to a laptop, which typically has limited storage place.

These drives can be used for all kinds of different things. You can use them to transfer very large files between you and a friends computer. Or you can copy large video files to bring to your relatives house, to show them videos you have taken. You can even expand the storage size of some modern DVR boxes. Just plug one of these in and you instantly have that much more space.

Portable hard drives are really neat devices. As we have discussed they are just so useful, and are available in different shapes and designs. You can even find some drives that are built for maximum durability, which is very useful when you are transporting them around, throwing them in a bag. They have special enclosures that allow them to not get damaged in the event they get wet or dropped.

They don't require a lot of setup, and are just pretty much plug and play. Plug them into your desktop or laptop and it will just show up as an extra hard drive on your computer. External USB hard drives have become an essential peripheral for the computer use.
